Advice on Buying Used Trailers
-- (A Primer on Issues and Procedures)
Whether
you are in the market to buy 1 or 100, the unique and individual
characteristics of each used trailer purchase present buying challenges
that are very different than buying new.
When a fleet order for new trailers is
built by the OEM, they are most often assembled identically and
consecutively, from the beginning of the order to the end.
Without the unit numbers or VIN plates, it is a virtual
impossibility for anyone to tell them apart.
When those same
trailers turn 3, 5, or 8 years old, however, the “genetic sameness”
that they enjoyed at birth is washed away by hundreds of thousands of
miles of unique operating conditions.
While they still share the same original factory line spec sheet
and general appearance, each of the trailers in the group is as different
as it can be. Tire and brake
conditions, the nature of any un-repaired damages, variations in repairs
that have been made, undercarriage corrosion, body scratches, floor
gouges, crossmember deflection, and even the dirt on the interior lining,
are all examples of areas in which used sister trailers can vary widely.
In addition, the
process of buying a used trailers (ie, passing monies, conveying titles
and delivering the trailers) differs dramatically from purchasing new.
As a leading
specialist in the buying and selling of used trailers, WillGo has
accumulated a tremendous amount of experience in both the “science”
and “art” of purchasing used trailers.
From this experience, we have developed the following list of
recommended steps for the used trailer buyer’s reference.
(Please note that this list is not intended as a replacement for
legal or professional advice on trailer sales transactions.
You should use this list simply as an additional reference guide to
issues and considerations in the sale process.)

process. Most of
the buyers’ and sellers’ time is spent trying to find
each other and communicate in a fair and orderly manner.
That’s were WillGo does more than anyone else!
Not only can buyers search our database, they can save
their searches and program them to run automatically on a
daily, weekly or monthly basis!
